Fits very well with my philosophy of unfixed intelligence

I used to think that talent and intelligence were fixed and based primarily on genetics. After receiving training in the Suzuki Violin Method, also known as Talent Education, my belief changed. Raising my own children and looking back at my own childhood made me realize that talent can be nurtured. Labeling kids as lazy or untalented is the ultimate cop out because it takes time, commitment, and a loving approach to develop a child's talents. Englemann's book complements the Suzuki philosophy very well. It emphasizes the fact that parents need to invest time in our children's education by giving them an active learning environment at home even before formal schooling begins. I am a public school educator, and I believe in our educational system, but I am still actively involved in my child's education. This book is an excellent guide. Because of the time in which it was written, it is not very politically correct. If you can get past that knowing that the findings in this book are based on scientific research, it is an excellent manual in developing your child's talents. My eldest learned how to read using Englemann's "Teach Your Child How to Read in 100 Easy Lessons." She is 5 and hasn't started Kinder yet, but thanks to Engelmann's book and our commitment to following his instructions, she reads at a 3rd grade level with excellent comprehension. I am a believer in Engelmann's work after reading these books.
